FREE Monthly Community Grief Gathering-Topics for January through June 2024

The 2nd Tuesday of each month we invite the Community to come to our FREE Monthly Grief Gatherings from 6-7pm at our office 7071 Convoy Court Suite 101, San Diego, CA 92111 and join Rebekah Finn our Bereavement and Volunteer Coordinator for various ways to navigate your way through grief. This invitation is open to anyone in the Community whether your loved one was on our service or not. We strive to create a safe, sacred space to be seen, heard and validated as you navigate your way through grief. We acknowledge that grief is unique to the individual and encourage all who attend to show up just as you are. *Note it isn’t a requirement to bring your ideas and share on the specific topics each month. You are welcome to come as you are sharing your grief story with the group and participation is not required. We also welcome and provide space for participants to just be with their grief in community without sharing.  All grief is welcome. Our goal is to create a safe and confidential container for all who join.

Here is a snapshot of our 6 month topics so you can Save the Dates on your calendar and plan ahead if certain topics spark your interest.

Each participant will be allocated a specific amount of time to share whatever they want with the group. Our basic agreements for our gatherings are based off Frances Weller's Book The Wild Edge of Sorrow  1. No advice given.  2. Practice saying we hear you, or a simple Thank you after some shares. Remember grief is not a problem to be solved but an experience to be witnessed. 3. Deep listening to what the person is sharing. 3. No interrupting. 4. Allow space and breath after someone speaks. 5. Confidentiality, it is important that what is shared in the circle will be held in the circle. 6. Practice revelatory speech-this is a speech that reveals who you are, not how someone should be.

Lastly, this space is centered on providing comfort and understanding to one another. For this reason we ask that you please refrain from promoting personal services or other grief support groups during our sessions. If you have resources or services to share, kindly reach out directly to Rebekah Finn. RSVP to her via Text to 858.833.0546 or via email rfinn@topkare.com.

Free Community NADA Acupuncture Every Tuesday at 1:15pm

Free Acupuncture Every Tuesday for our Community! We have partnered and added 4 Acupuncture Student Interns to our Volunteer Program who attend Pacific College School of Health & Science.

Free Community NADA Acupuncture Every Tuesday: 1:15pm is the Community Appointment Time (10 appointments available) will be reserved for those in the community interested in trying out holistic treatments of acupuncture, or do not have a beloved on service, and have completed our 13 month Bereavement Program. This is a shared group Community session where all 10 chairs are placed in a large circle in our conference room and everyone is treated in the same room.  Everyone gets the same treatment to help alleviate stress. After ear needles and ear seeds are placed on each person, Dr. Lathrop leads the group in a guided meditation. Our goal is to help promote relaxation accompanied by a calming spa like atmosphere, candlelight and soothing music to help restore the mind, body and get some down time to just be.

We are aiming to create a tranquil and distraction-free environment where everyone can fully immerse themselves in relaxation to receive their acupuncture treatment(s). Since everyone is in one room we ask to turn off, or silence your cell phones, to help promote a quiet setting for all of those getting an acupuncture treatment. It as an opportunity to unplug and fully engage in the present moment and make the most of the experience. We express our gratitude and thank you for honoring our sacred community acupuncture sanctuary.

A description of the protocol used at the 1:15pm appointments is below.

Exploring the NADA Acupuncture Protocol: Efficacy and Applications

Acupuncture, a traditional Chinese medicine practice, has gained widespread recognition for its therapeutic benefits in treating various health conditions. One particular acupuncture protocol, known as the NADA protocol, has garnered attention for its efficacy in addressing issues such as addiction, stress, and emotional imbalances. In this article, we will delve into the NADA acupuncture protocol, its components, and its effectiveness in clinical settings.

Understanding the NADA Protocol

The NADA protocol, also referred to as the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association protocol, was developed in the 1970s by Dr. Michael Smith, a physician working in the South Bronx of New York City. This protocol is a standardized auricular acupuncture treatment that involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the outer ear.

The NADA protocol typically involves the insertion of five needles into specific ear points: the sympathetic point, shen men, liver, lung, and kidney points. These points are believed to correspond to various organs and systems in the body according to traditional Chinese medicine theory.

Applications of the NADA Protocol

1. **Stress and Anxiety:** The NADA protocol is also utilized to address stress, anxiety, and emotional imbalances. By stimulating specific ear points, the protocol is thought to promote relaxation, balance the nervous system, and improve mood. This makes it beneficial for individuals dealing with chronic stress, anxiety disorders, and mood-related issues.

2. **Addiction Recovery:** One of the primary applications of the NADA protocol is in addiction recovery programs. It has been used as an adjunct therapy to support individuals undergoing substance abuse treatment, including alcohol, nicotine, and drug addiction. The protocol is believed to help reduce cravings, alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and support overall emotional well-being during the recovery process.

3. **Trauma and PTSD:** Another area where the NADA protocol has shown promise is in the treatment of trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Acupuncture, including auricular acupuncture, is believed to help regulate the body's stress response and support emotional healing. Integrating the NADA protocol into trauma-informed care approaches has been a subject of interest in mental health settings.

Efficacy and Research

Research studies and clinical observations have provided supportive evidence for the efficacy of the NADA protocol in various contexts:

- A meta-analysis published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine in 2018 reviewed several studies and concluded that acupuncture, including the NADA protocol, can be beneficial in reducing withdrawal symptoms and cravings in individuals with substance use disorders.

- A study published in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment in 2019 found that participants receiving the NADA protocol alongside traditional substance abuse treatment showed improvements in anxiety, depression, and overall well-being compared to those receiving standard treatment alone.

- Clinical experiences from addiction treatment centers, community health programs, and integrative healthcare settings have reported positive outcomes, including increased relaxation, improved sleep, and enhanced coping abilities among clients receiving the NADA protocol.

Conclusion

The NADA acupuncture protocol offers a non-invasive and cost-effective approach to addressing various health issues, particularly in the realms of addiction recovery, stress management, and emotional well-being. While further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms of action and optimize its application, the existing evidence and clinical experiences support its efficacy and integration into holistic healthcare practices. As part of an integrative approach to wellness, the NADA protocol holds promise in promoting healing and enhancing the quality of life for individuals seeking holistic and alternative healthcare options.

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medical practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. These points are believed to be connected by pathways that conduct energy, called meridians, and stimulating these points is thought to balance the flow of energy, or qi (pronounced "chee"), within the body.

During an acupuncture treatment, a trained practitioner will carefully insert these needles into specific points on your body. The needles are typically very thin, so most people feel little to no pain during the insertion. Once the needles are in place, you may feel sensations like tingling, warmth, or a dull ache, which is often interpreted as the body's energy being influenced.

Acupuncture is commonly used to treat a variety of conditions, including pain management, stress reduction, anxiety, digestive issues, and even fertility problems. Some people find it helpful for alleviating symptoms and improving overall well-being.

While further research is needed to fully understand its mechanisms of action and optimize its application, the existing evidence and clinical experiences support its efficacy and integration into holistic healthcare practices.

Each person will sit down with the acupuncture student intern and be asked questions to help create a customized treatment to meet their specific needs.

FREE Monthly Community Grief Gathering-Topics for July through December 2024

We are aiming to create a tranquil and distraction-free environment where everyone can fully immerse themselves in relaxation to receive their acupuncture treatment(s).

Each person will sit down with the acupuncture student intern and be asked questions to help create a customized treatment to meet their specific needs.

These appointments are treated in a community setting in our conference room. A spa-like atmosphere is created with soothing music, dim lights , each person has an option to be treated sitting up or lying down on the ground with a comfy mat and blankets to help promote relaxation.

Each person will sit down with the acupuncture student intern and be asked questions to help create a customized treatment to meet their specific needs.

Make Life Meaningful: Aging with Intention

While it's commonplace to plan for life events like weddings, welcoming babies, purchasing homes, and going on vacations, discussions surrounding aging and death are often avoided. Despite being universal truths, these topics tend to elicit discomfort. How can we spearhead a movement that encourages proactive planning, education, intentionality, and choice before a crisis arises? Although health challenges and death inevitably bring sadness, addressing these matters openly with our loved ones and friends can significantly diminish the associated trauma.

FREE Grief Gathering Topics January 9th

IN PERSON January 9th is a Free Monthly Grief Gathering: Come Share your Grief Story! Time 6-7pm 7071 Convoy Suite 101, San Diego, CA 92111  RSVP our Bereavement Coordinator Rebekah Finn via Text 858.833.0546 or via email rfinn@topkare.com After attending End Well Symposium in November the biggest Theme was Telling your Unique Story. Grief stories can have all sorts of emotions and sharing them helps bring people together to know Grief is a Universal Human Experience. My goal is to create a safe container for all who join. Next Tuesday all are welcome to come together and each person will be given time to share their particular unique grief story. After reading Frances Weller's Book The Wild Edge of Sorrow I want to share some basic agreements his book suggested.  1. No advice be given.  2. Practice saying we hear you, or a simple Thank you after some shares. Remember grief is not a problem to be solved but an experience to be witnessed. 3. Deep listening to what the person is sharing. 3. No interrupting 4. Allow space and breath after someone speaks. 5. Confidentiality, it is important that what is shared in the circle will be held in the circle. 6. Practice revelatory speech-this is a speech that reveals who you are, not how someone should be. Look forward to all who come.
